Grade 7

Students completed their assignment on interpreting a map. It will be sent home shortly for parent signatures. Please review the assignment, sign it and return it to school. This week students will be discussing public transport and the advantages and disadvantages of transporting good by truck, train, and boat; as well as, the benefits and inconveniences of using containers when transporting good.

Grade 8

Students are completing their assignment on analyzing a map and using a topographic map to analyze a site.  These assignments will be sent home soon. Please review it, sign it and return to school. We will be discussing different zones of communities and how an urban planner beautifies communities.

For both Grade 7's and Grade 8's, we begin Géography. Report cards for Term 1 will reflect the student's mark in Histoire and report cards for Term 2 will reflect the student's mark in Géography.

Grade 7

In Chapter 1, students will observe how various locations are unique by looking at their physical and human characteristics. We will discuss how to read a map (latitude and longitude) and how to find a site using relative and exact location finders. Students will complete an assignment on how to interpret a map. Grade 8

In Chapter 1, we examine the ways in which we recognize the human constants in communities. We will discuss differences between a rural and an urban community and the 4 types of sites where communities are established. Students will complete an assignment about analyzing a map and the information it gives you. (Text p. 13)

Happy new year to everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break.

Grade 7

This week we begin our final chapter (Chapter 9) in History. This unit focuses on building for the future. We will discuss Lord Durham and his report which includes discussions on responsible government, uniting the Canadas, and the question of representation. We will also discuss the Union Act which will become The British North America Act that created the Canadian Confederation.

Grade 8

This week we begin our final chapter (Chapter 9) in History. This unit focuses on Canada as we approach the First World War. We will discuss the role of Canada in the British Empire and our role in the Boers War.
